After more than 12 years of being a full-time telecommuting employee and too many years working in an office, Randy Duermyer has been working from home as an independent writer, search engine and social media marketing consultant since 2003.
Before becoming an independent freelancer and entrepreneur, Randy worked in a number of work-at-home and on site staff positions, including full-time work at home positions spanning more than 15 years. Currently, he provides blog, writing and online marketing services through his own home business. He also works from home as Digital Marketing Manager and Sr. Writer for Market It Write, a marketing and copywriting agency in the New York City metro area.
Randy holds a B.A. in Business & Economics from Rutgers University and holds certifications both as a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a certified Webmaster (CIW). He has also completed numerous college and graduate-level courses in search engine marketing, website promotion, eCommerce marketing and online communications. He is a lifelong learner who likes to take advantage of opportunities to learn and to network.
I had been very successful working for others and I feel fortunate to have been able to work from home most of that time. The catalyst for going out on my own came when I was unexpectedly laid off and unable to find a traditional salaried position. Although I had dabbled in part-time entrepreneurship before then and had always dreamed of owning my own business, it wasn't until this life-changing event that I had no choice but to support myself full time and be my own boss. I see my site on About.com as an opportunity to give something back to my readers so they too may learn and grow in order to ultimately achieve their dreams of operating a business and working from home.
