Small businesses of all kinds have been devastated by the coronavirus pandemic. The economic impact, in fact, has resulted in over 160,000 U.S. businesses shuttering their operations in just a six-month span.
In an effort to shed some light on how some of those people directly affected have navigated the pandemic, The Balance launched Perspectives, a Q&A series with individuals whose businesses have changed because of COVID-19. In the process, we learned about the trials of permanent closings, reopening challenges, self-employment issues, significant professional readjustments, and much more.
From a Manhattan bar owner who was forced to permanently close multiple operations, to a D.C.-area hardware store owner whose business was quickly deemed essential, those we’ve spoken with have shared enlightening, inspiring stories of how they were impacted, what they’ve learned during the crisis, and how they're moving forward.
