Experience

Marisa started her compliance career at CreditCards.com after moving over from the oil and gas contract management industry. While at CreditCards.com, she used her expertise to bring its network of over 100 financial bloggers into compliance by keeping tabs on the quickly changing industry regulations, attending industry-specific training and making sure each blogger meets compliance requirements. She had a hand in working with the Chase, Wells Fargo, and Capital One programs monitoring their extensive network of publishers.

Prior to joining The Balance SMB, Marisa was Compliance Manager at Wise Bread. There, she watched over the international compliance team and instituted around-the-clock monitoring of the site. She simplified compliance by creating new and efficient auditing procedures, as well as processes for new credit card and banking updates. Because of her tactical and effective strategies, Marisa was invited to speak to BrandVerity's publishers about the importance of compliance.

Marisa joined The Balance SMB in 2020 to run all marketing compliance and content integrity initiatives. She brings a great deal of financial product know-how to help ensure the best interests of The Balance SMB’s readers. Whether Dotdash’s readers are taking out a business loan, signing up for the latest credit card, comparing tax preparation programs, or researching business funding, Marisa keeps a close eye on content and holds editors, freelancers and recommended providers accountable.

In addition to making sure all The Balance SMB documents are in compliance, another major function of Marisa’s role is putting all articles through a routine and meticulous fact-checking process, so we can feel assured we’re publishing the most accurate content.
